Walking in the Runway for Recovery Fashion Show

Earlier this year, I had the incredible honor of walking in the Runway for Recovery fashion show, an organization dedicated to supporting families navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.

Runway for Recovery does something truly special. While much of the focus during breast cancer treatment is naturally on the patient, a diagnosis impacts the entire family — spouses, parents, siblings, and especially children.

Through their programs and fundraising efforts, Runway for Recovery helps provide children and families with opportunities like ballet classes, swim lessons, and other activities that allow kids to experience moments of normalcy during an incredibly challenging time.

Walking the runway that night was incredibly meaningful, but what made it even more special was having my own family there.

My husband was in the audience cheering me on, along with my parents, my sister and brother-in-law, my sister-in-law, and extended family. Seeing them there reminded me of something that became so clear during my own breast cancer journey:

No one goes through cancer alone.

Even though my husband and I don’t have children, family was everything during that chapter of our lives. They were the people who showed up to appointments, checked in constantly, and helped carry the emotional weight of what we were going through.

Standing on that runway alongside other survivors and thrivers was a powerful reminder of how strong the breast cancer community truly is.

Organizations like Runway for Recovery are doing incredible work by supporting not just the individual facing a diagnosis, but the families who walk through it with them.

Because when families are supported, everyone has a better chance at healing.

It was a beautiful evening, and I’m so grateful to have been part of it.

Runway for Recovery is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families navigating a breast cancer diagnosis. Through community events and fundraising initiatives, they help provide children and families with opportunities like dance classes, swim lessons, and other activities that bring moments of joy during treatment and recovery.
