Confidence After Cancer: The Story Behind POST SWIM’s Mastectomy Swimsuits

Swimwear That Fits Your Story

Mastectomy Swimsuits That Reclaim Confidence and Control

I needed mastectomy swimsuits with coverage that felt empowering, not revealing. I was diagnosed with breast cancer just three days before my 38th birthday.

At an age where I still wanted to feel sexy, vibrant, feminine, and fully myself—especially as a woman married to the love of my life—that version of me began to disappear under the weight of my diagnosis.

Breast cancer didn’t just take my health; it disrupted my identity. Treatments put me into early menopause. I lost my hair, my confidence, and my sense of self. I felt broken.

By the time I turned 39, I had undergone chemotherapy, a double mastectomy with reconstruction, a feeding tube due to ulcers in my GI tract, and a preventative hysterectomy. I looked in the mirror and barely recognized the woman staring back. My mind, body, and identity had shifted entirely. I desperately wanted to feel like me again, but the old me no longer existed.

The Moment That Sparked POST SWIM

Before a celebratory trip to Maui, I found myself frustrated in front of my closet. The swimsuits I had once loved didn’t fit the same. They exposed everything I didn’t want exposed: scars, implant rippling, and the softness of a post-menopausal body. I needed swimsuits with coverage that felt empowering, not clinical or outdated.

Instead of making me feel confident, my old swimsuits made me feel more disconnected from myself. Traditional swimwear wasn’t designed for women like me—young breast cancer survivors searching for style, support, and scar-conscious silhouettes.

This isn’t just my journey, it’s shared by thousands of women across the country. The Young Survival Coalition, a leading nonprofit for women under 40 diagnosed with breast cancer reports that younger women often face more aggressive cancers, higher mortality rates, and limited representation in research and product design.

That’s precisely why POST SWIM exists, to design mastectomy swimsuits and post-surgery swimwear that honor real bodies and real stories, not outdated assumptions.

Most tummy control bikinis and post-mastectomy swimsuits I found felt either overly clinical or too revealing. Even full coverage bikini bottoms still managed to cover too much in the wrong places and too little in the places that mattered.

As I stood there venting to my husband, he said something that changed everything:

“Maybe you’re supposed to create what doesn’t exist.”

And so, POST SWIM was born.

Swimwear for Breast Cancer Survivors—Made by One

POST SWIM is a swimwear brand designed to serve the overlooked: young survivors, women navigating life after a mastectomy or reconstruction, and anyone craving confidence, coverage, and comfort in their swimwear.

Our suits are made to honor every type of scar—including mastectomy swimsuits for flat closures, post-surgery swimsuits for reconstructed silhouettes, and swimsuits with pockets for prosthesis wearers.

We’re proud to offer:

  • Scar coverage that feels empowering, not restrictive
  • Thoughtful support for implant rippling, nipple asymmetry, and post-surgical needs
  • Soft, structured fabric that offers tummy control and long-wearing comfort
  • Flattering one-pieces and full coverage bikini bottoms
  • Modern, stylish, and yes—sexy silhouettes
  • Bikini tops and one-pieces designed to lay flat beautifully for flatties, without extra padding or awkward gaps

While POST SWIM was born from my personal journey, it reflects the needs of so many others. According to Susan G. Komen, women under 40 are more likely to be diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer subtypes and face higher mortality rates. And yet, this age group remains largely underrepresented in research, support resources, and product innovation.

That’s why we’re here, to change that, one swimsuit at a time. Whether you’re looking for a breast cancer swimsuit, a post-mastectomy swimsuit, or even a c-section swimsuit that respects your healing body, POST SWIM is here to meet you with grace, care, and support.

More Than a Brand. A Statement.

POST SWIM is about choice, control, and confidence. We give you the freedom to decide what you want to show and how you want to show it. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, healing from surgery, years into survivorship, or simply someone who wants more supportive swimwear with coverage, we’re here for you.

I launched POST SWIM on my three-year cancer-versary to reclaim that day and turn it into something hopeful.

This brand started from my personal experience but has been shaped by countless conversations with women just like me—women who didn’t want to hide, but wanted to choose when and how they shared their story.
